3D Scanners

David Laserscanner

3D laser scanning is a simple and effective method for generating a 3D digital file from an existing physical object.

The scanner itself uses a laser or light source and a camera to identify and collect digital reference points from the object being scanned.

These individual points are then collated into a point cloud, which can subsequently be converted into a 3D digital model for direct reproduction or manipulated further.

Used for a host of applications, including creative sculpture and reverse engineering, it is 3D offers the lowest cost, hand-held 3D scanner on the market — the David Starter Kit.

David Structured Light system

The new DAVID-SLS-1 scanner employs the innovative Structured Light technology, which allows precise 3D scanning in a matter of seconds.

The scanner is mobile and can be placed easily in front of the surface to be scanned. A single click in the well-proven DAVID software starts the scan - and a few seconds later the digitized 3D model shows up on your screen!

This way you can subsequently scan all sides of the object, and finally combine them to a closed 360° model.

The modular hardware setup allows a flexible adaptation to your object - any size from coin to couch is possible!

The results can be exported into common 3D file formats (OBJ, STL, PLY) and processed in other applications, e.g. for rapid prototyping, inspection, product presentations, archeology and cultural heritage, works of art, computer animations, video

The limits are set only by your imagination!

The David 3D scanning systems safely allows anyone to copy an existing shape and acquire digital 3D data simply and easily. Furthermore the David Laserscanning system can be fully integrated with the entire it is 3D  range of products, including Cloud9 for additional design operations or physical recreations using 3D printing or 5 Axis machining.

There are various factors to be considered for scanning applications, but it is 3D can advise on selecting the best scanning system for your application:

Key factors:
· Price
· Resolution
· Speed of scanning
· Size of object
· Beginner or expert

If price is the key issue, you can start scanning with the David Starter kit which is the lowest cost 3D laser scanner in the world.

If resolution is most important, you should consider upgrading to a shorter wave length laser (green or blue) from the standard red laser.

You can also upgrade from a webcam to a monochrome USB camera.

If speed is vital, (perhaps you want to scan people who have a tendency to move), you can use the advanced Structured Light solution.

Size of object: if scanning small objects, go for a line laser whereas for large objects, the Structured light solution is easier and quicker.

Beginner vs expert – it does not matter whether you are experienced with 3D scanning or trying it for the first time; all of it is 3D ′s scanning systems are quick to learn and easy to use.
